Each fall on the second Saturday in November, Olde Daphne comes alive with the aromas and sounds of the Italian heritage that has been part of life in our community since the late 1880’s.
The occasion is SEEDS Mamma Mia Cook-off – slated this year for Saturday, November 10, 2007, from 6-9 p.m. on the grounds of Hutchinson, Rauch and Moore Engineering at 2039 Main Street, just across from Lott Park.
Attendees will delight in sampling the numerous Italian delicacies prepared by our teams – all of which will be complemented by a selection of Italian wines, soft beverages and appropriate side items. Entertainment is a big part of the evening with the Big Band sounds of Randy Davis and The Jubilee Orchestra, a live auction featuring several exciting items and packages, and large-screen college football for all.
Join the fun! Get all the information on tickets, sponsorship and team registration here.

Area running enthusiasts – and hundreds of Daphne students, parents, and teachers – will once again hit the streets for SEEDS on Saturday morning, March 7, 2009, for the Classic Rock 5K & Fun Run, SEEDS fifth annual spring road race fundraiser.
The 5K race will start near Daphne Public Library on Main Street at 8 am and follow a mostly flat, loop course through the downtown area. Participants in the Fun Run (approximately 1 mile) will take off from in front of Centennial Part (across from Daphne City Hall) at 9 am and finish near Daphne Public Library. A big Post-Race Party – and an awards ceremony featuring Rock & Roll Hall of Fame merchandise for top runners, a live classic rock band, grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, soft beverages, door prizes and plenty of activities for kids – will provide a fun family morning through 11 am. Parking will be available in the Daphne Civic Center complex area and, where allowed, in Olde Daphne near Centennial Park – with shuttle service provided between the two locations.
Classic Rock 5K & Fun Run registration forms for the 2009 event will be available in January 2009 on this site, at all local fitness centers and in all the Daphne schools. Runners may also register online: www.active.com.
In 2006 – at the request of the Daphne principals – SEEDS brought together a group of local business and civic leaders to promote character education as a means of improving school climate and student achievement.
SEEDS has since hosted a community-wide rally, quarterly meetings of the TEAM Up for Daphne Character Coalition, an all-day seminar for Baldwin County educators and, most recently, a Principal for a Day Project to increase awareness about and understanding of character education’s role in shaping our students’ long-term success.
Over the coming year, SEEDS plans to shift our advocacy efforts to focus on how we can better work together as a community to encourage academic excellence.
Members of SEEDS’ newly renamed TEAM Up for Academic Excellence Coalition recently took part in carpool and bus line promotions during spring testing and are planning a community-wide seminar to improve understanding about student achievement data for later this year.
It takes a TEAM to help all of Daphne’s children become all they can be.
Since 2005, over $48,000 has been distributed to teachers in the five Daphne public schools and at Christ the King Catholic School through the SEEDS Classroom Enrichment Grant Program. These annual awards are made on the basis of each proposal’s potential for creativity and impact, professional collaboration and community partnership. To date all teacher requests received have been fully funded.
