Bowie, Karvelas Win SEEDS Classic Rock 5K

Jon Bowie and Ciera Karvelas, both of Daphne, won top honors in the 2007 SEEDS' Classic Rock 5K held Saturday, March 3. Bowie beat out a field of 250 runners to win the 3.1 mile event in 16:42. Twelve-year old Ciera Karvelas, a seventh grader at Daphne Middle School, won first place in the women's division with an impressive time of 21:19.
The overall Masters division winners were Roy Duncan (18:29) of Mobile and Dana Sims (24:09) of Daphne. Other top award winners included Grand Masters Guy Truett (19:45) of Moss Point, MS, and Jeanne Faye Berman (26:52) of Mobile; Senior Grand Masters Kent Welsh (23:33) and Martha Harris (33:26), both from Mobile; and Race Walker Nicholas Burrows (28:44) also of Mobile.
The under-15 winners in the one-mile Classic Rock Fun Run were: First place - Will Andrson (Christ the King School) and Amanda Patton (Daphne Middle); second place - Taylor Elmore and Sarah Bodden, both from Daphne Middle School; and third place - Chase Diard and Hailey Silver, both from Christ the King School.
