Join hundreds of area runners as we rock and roll through the streets of Olde Towne Daphne at the 2013 SEEDS Classic Rock 5K & Fun Run on Saturday, March 2. The 3.1 mile main event gets under way at 8 am at Daphne City Hall (1705 Main Street) with the certified one-mile fun run to follow at 9 o’clock.
The event attracted over 1000 runners and walkers in 2012. Top finishers overall will once again receive Museum Shop gift items from the National Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Classic Rock medals will go to age-group winners. Fun Run participants will receive commemorative ribbons.
Live classic rock music, grilled hamburgers and hotdogs, celebrity sightings and lots of fun children’s activities are planned through 11 am.
For the fifth consecutive time, the SEEDS Classic Rock 5K has been selected as a Corporate Cup event, a prestigious regional program that brings together teams of elite runners who compete for points in a select group of races throughout the year. Additionally, SEEDS’ certified 1-mile course – one of the few in the area – affords interested runners with an opportunity to compete for state records.
Students, parents and teachers who register for the race at school (Feb. 4-15) will be counted in the homeroom competition for a Classic Rock Party to be held later in the spring. Family members registering with a Daphne student may enter the 5K for only $15 (regular registration is $18) and all Fun Run registrations are $10. (School program 5K registrants may participate in the Fun Run with their children for free.)
One dollar of each race registration collected through the 2013 Classic Rock School Program will be donated to the participating student's school. All other proceeds go to SEEDS’ Classroom Grant Program that has provided more than $255,000 for instructional improvements in the Daphne schools since 2005.
Those registering through their child’s homeroom by Feb. 15 will receive their Classic Rock T-shirts at school on Feb. 28. All other race packets will be picked up on race day from 7-7:45 a.m. at Daphne City Hall.
