The 2011-12 school year will be a pivotal one for SEEDS. Through 19 community conversations SEEDS held last summer, we learned Daphne residents rightfully expect every student to graduate with a meaningful plan for further education and the transferable workplace skills that only a solid background in the sciences, humanities and technology can provide. Yet the state’s continuing budget crisis means our school district’s capacity to meet these demands is limited.
Since our founding in 2005, SEEDS has helped to address many of the gaps that exist between ideal teaching conditions and available resources in the Daphne schools. But over the past two years, procuring the funds we need to address these growing disparities has been increasingly difficult. At the same time, the number of new SEEDS volunteers stepping up to assume active leadership roles has declined, leaving many of the same individuals to sustain the work of the foundation year after year.
In short, Daphne has some important decisions to make about the future of SEEDS. Do we want our efforts to languish when local education foundations in neighboring communities are flourishing? Are we satisfied with the status quo or even declining effectiveness when our students and teachers are looking to us for help more than ever?
Our foundation is only as strong as the citizens of Daphne make it and membership must be more than just a decal on a car window. In other words, the future of SEEDS is in your hands! Here’s how you can help:
