Ideas At First-ever SEEDS Summit

More than 50 community members came together on November 18 to learn about progress under way in and challenges being faced by the Daphne schools. Following a presentation by school administrators, Summit participants discussed how the community can help address these needs.

Their ideas focused on five priorities:

  • Find new ways to motivate students as they work to meet high standards;
  • Make students aware of career opportunities now available in local industry and the benefits of being prepared to go to work following graduation;
  • Provide more support for math education;
  • Look into establishing a community-based mentoring program in Daphne;
  • Work to expand pre-school education.

The SEEDS board of directors will use these ideas – together with input provided by the 2008 SEEDS Community Survey – to develop plans for 2009.
